Government Loves You - Sucker

ACHIEVEMENT IN A GOVERNMENT PROGRAM IS SPENDING THE MONEY NOT ATTAINING THE GOAL Last sentence says Obama is asking for MORE money to waste. “Since 2009. The Obama administration has awarded more than $1 billion to American companies to make advanced batteries for electric vehicles. Halfway toward the goal of producing 1 million electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, auto makers are 1/20th of the way there. The money funded 9 battery plants - scattered across the U.S. from Michigan, to Pennsylvania and Florida -that have few customers, operate well below capacity and, so far, have created less and a 1/3 of the jobs promised by 2015. Customers including start-up Fisker Automotive Inc. and auto makers like General Motors Co., that urged the funding, have struggled to produce and sell battery-powered cars, though they insist a market is coming. President Obama heralded the “birth of an entire new industry” during the ceremonial opening of A123 Systems Inc.’s production plant in 2010. The president’s 2013 budget proposal asks for an increase in tax credits to car buyers to amp sales.”

The State is a Stationary Bandit

The notion that the state is a legitimate agency – one deserving respect – an institution that, despite its flaws, generally promotes (or at least aims to promote) the welfare of its citizens – is increasingly difficult to understand, much less to accept. A far more realistic view of the state, any state, comes from Mancur Olson: the state is a stationary bandit. Prudence might require that ordinary people tolerate it, but wisdom requires that those same ordinary people understand that, when dealing with the state, they are dealing with organized thuggery. Obey it because your failure to do so will prompt it to unleash its guns and prisons on you, but please don’t pretend that the state’s commands are issued with your best interests in mind.

Are Americans this Stupid?

Obama really does think Americans are stupid: “If people ask you what this campaign is about, you tell them, it’s still about hope,” Obama told supporters at a rally in Columbus earlier this month. “You tell them it’s still about change.”

WHY LIMITED GOVERNMENT

H. L. Mencken is speaking of the ordinary citizen of modern-day America: “But he can no more escape the tax-gatherer and the policemen, in all their protean and multitudinous guises, than he can escape the ultimate mortician. They beset him constantly, day in and day out, in ever-increasing numbers and in ever more disarming masks and attitudes. They invade his liberty, affront his dignity and greatly incommode his search for happiness, and every year they demand and wrest from him a larger and larger share of his worldly goods.”, from page 179 of the 2006 edition of H.L. Mencken’s 1955 collection Prejudices

GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY

REFERRED BY GARRY LUDWICK Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job. Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies. Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports. Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people. Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary. Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back." So they laid-off the night watchman. NOW slowly, let it sink in. Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration? Anybody? Anything? No? Didn't think so! Bottom line is,we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency, the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember! Ready?? It was very simple... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. Hey, pretty efficient, huh??? AND NOW IT'S 2012 -- 35 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB ITHAS DONE! (THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?") 34 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports. Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy. NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT? Hello!! Anybody Home? Signed....The Night Watchman

Shakespeare was first

We are lucky that we do not need to search for the right words because Shakespeare said most things first: “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” How could the great bard know that Obama and his minions are flying rampant over America, 2012, spreading falsehood and darkening our beautiful land?

21%

ARE THEY THE SAME PEOPLE? Statistics I saw yesterday: 21% of Americans are Mentally Ill 21% of Americans are Liberals. What is your analysis?

C.S. Lewis Thought

These societies are barbaric because of their false religion, as C.S. Lewis stated: You can put this another way by saying that while in other sciences the instruments you use are things external to yourself (things like microscopes and telescopes), the instrument through which you see God is your whole self. And if a man’s self is not kept clean and bright, his glimpse of God will be blurred — like the Moon seen through a dirty telescope. That is why horrible nations have horrible religions: they have been looking at God through a dirty lens.

Who do You Trust

Collapse In Trust Is A Good Predictor Of Collapse In Governments. “That is the real story here. We asked people whether they trusted government officials in their country to tell the truth about a difficult issue and the results were abysmal. In nearly every country surveyed, government leaders were less trusted to tell the truth than business leaders. However, European countries were far more likely than countries in other regions to say they do not trust government leaders at all to tell the truth.”

Imbecilities of the Mob

“Public policies are determined and legislation is made by small minorities playing upon the fears and imbecilities of the mob – sometimes minorities of intelligent and honest men, but usually minorities of rogues.” from H.L. Mencken’s 1926 Notes on Democracy. No better summary of modern government has ever been penned.

ABORTIONS HONOR MOTHERS! From The Washington Examiner (hat tip - Weazel Zippers): Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., built a fundraising pitch for the pro-choice political action group EMILY;s List around the upcoming Mother's Day holiday. "This Mother's Day, I can't think of a better way to honor all the mothers in the country -- past and present -- than with a contribution to EMILY's List," Gillibrand wrote in the email [all emphasis original]. "They're the ones working tirelessly to elect the pro-choice Democratic women who are making sure that our freedoms are protected for generations to come." 'Honoring' mothers by funding an organization that kills babies of women who "chose" not to be mothers? That's not only really, really, sick and bizarre -- it doesn't even make any sense at all. Unfortunately, it's a prime example of just how illogically and non-sensibly far too many liberals think. By the way, Doug Powers points out that Sen. Gillibrand and Emily's list aren't alone in their 'loopyness' -- Planned Parenthood also has their hands out for Mother's Day. Alternatively, perhaps brunch is more your thing. Then there's also Sandra Fluke and the National Women's Law Center joining in on the looniness -- she wants you to honor moms this Mother's Day by sharing your contraception anecdotes.

I came across this in the Washington Examiner. Don’t know who Lavaux is but his point is well taken. Stay on message and don’t get distracted by past or trivia. Lavaux, Christian, husband of one and father of two, American ex-pat, international lawyer, classical liberal. Hear him. “Let's stop noodling around in Obama's background and focus on what we know about him from his past three and a half years as our president. 1. Obama is a lousy statesman and a great politician. 2. Obama has failed the Office of President as well as the country he governs, yet his political skills give him a decent shot at winning another term despite his record. 3. Obama will say anything no matter how untrue and do anything no matter how destructive to build the Obama brand - he's in this job for himself and his vision for America. 4. Obama believes himself entitled to the job, entitled to exploit the perks of the job, entitled to our love, and entitled to impose his will on us. 5. Along with ego, identity and self-image, Obama is motivated by ideologies and values most Americans do not share with him. 6. Obama does not understand or like America as is. These things more than justify our flushing this guy from our political system, so let's get the job done.”
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. - Winston Churchill R

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS is like a two-faced coin. It applies not only to us the common folk but also to the elite ( special) class. They get ‘heads’ and we get ‘tails’. 1. WOMEN LAWYERS at the GITMO trial of 9/11 accused should wear the HIHAB to protect the souls of the master minders of destruction. The Wall Street Journal reports: “Cheryl Bormann, a lawyer for Mr. bin Attash, was dressed in an abaya, a loose-fitting garment worn by observant Muslim women, leaving only her face exposed. She suggests that women on the prosecution team follow her example and dress modestly “so that our clients are not forced to look at the prosecution for fear of committing a sin under their faith.” We should bow in respect to murderers? Both elite lawyers and the justice system of normal Americans are expected to buy this political correctness? Wouldn’t a better solution be for the redneck American’s to wear the highest heels and shortest skirts the legal profession could find? 2. WHEN THE ELITES apply political correctness a favorite birthday treat of real Americans suffers - the cupcake. In Massachusetts, “Bake sales, the calorie-laden standby of cash-strapped classrooms, that PTA’s and booster clubs rely on, will be outlawed from public schools as of Aug. 1 as part of new no-nonsense nutrition standards, forcing fund raisers back to the blackboard to cook up alternative ways to raise money for kids.” Why? Sweet desserts are alleged to cause obesity. Of course, there’s also an alleged epidemic of “hunger.” 3. WHO FEEDS OUR KIDS ANYWAY? I QUOTE from the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack: “The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is a significant step forward in our effort to help America’s children thrive and grow to be healthy adults. Thanks to the dedication of this Congress and First Lady Michelle Obama, more kids will have access to healthy, balanced, nutritious school lunches. By increasing the number of students eligible to enroll in school meal programs and improving the quality of food served, this legislation simultaneously tackles both hunger and the obesity levels currently affecting too many communities across this nation.” How can we have epidemics of starvation and obesity at the same time? There appear on America’s two-faced coin of political correctness. Minted because of conflicting agendas - no problem to liberals, as YOU KNOW. The Fat Children are Starving, WE JUST NEED TO ACCEPT THAT as a contradictory fact, good as GOLD. What about parents whose children are not overweight in the slightest. They are subject to monitoring and now food restrictions at school. Meanwhile, the kids are dragged to community service at the local food pantry and badgered about “walking for hunger.” This is Orwellian doublespeak at its finest. Why isn’t anybody talking about it?
