“unprivileged enemy belligerents”

“unprivileged enemy belligerents”
Obama Administration expands use of “newspeak” with terrorists.
When it comes to Department of Defense doctrine on military treatment of detained persons, “unlawful enemy combatants” are a thing of the past. That term has been retired and replaced by “unprivileged enemy belligerents” in a new revision of Joint Publication 3-13 on Detainee Operations, dated November 13, 2014.

It’s another addition for my:
Democrat-Progressive-Liberal Orwellian Dictionary
“The Science is Settled” or “It’s not debatable,” etc., = anything they WISH were true but haven’t the facts to support.
Obstructionist = When Republicans-Conservatives refuse to yield completely, without the possibility of compromise, to Democrat desires.
Bipartisanship = When Republicans cease being obstructionist and agree completely to the Democrat-Progressive-Liberal desires.
Tolerance = Even when you disagree with us, we still let you live, don’t we? Too bad it’s only in the back of the bus, suck it up and thank us profusely or we may change our minds.
“Of the people, for the people, by the people”: clearly means “We the few, will tell the rest of you, exactly what to do.”
An own goal or major entirely preventable error that gets people killed = ‘The Fog of War.’
Budget Cut = A definite budget increase, but slightly lower than had been planned.
Democrats are never involved in wars, only Overseas Contingency Operations.
“Doing something” = 1) Give a Speech; 2) Tweet a picture of a woman with a sad face holding up a hash tag.
Liberal Opinion = Definition of meaning or fact.
Illegal aliens = new lifelong Democrat voters.
Honor a heroic or national figure like Neil Armstrong, Rosa Parks, etc., = present a picture of Obama.
History = 1) whatever we decide at the time to say it was 2) whatever spin benefits us politically.
Liberal think tanks are intelligent and factual. Conservative think tanks are an oxymoron, and a propaganda arm of the Right Wing charged with fabrication, invention, and deflection.
Illegal aliens = People who are not, shall we say, fully documented, of U.S. citizens (h/t Pelosi).
Undocumented minors = Illegal alien young men with gang affiliations and criminal records.
War = “Overseas Contingency Operation.”
Terrorist attack on U.S. soil = “work place violence.”
Terrorist = “Unlawful Enemy Combatant.” Oops, strike that, it’s out. Now they are “Unprivileged Enemy Belligerents.”
Foreign invasion of sovereign nation = ‘Um . . . uh . . . to act, uh . . . to cross the border in an unauthorized way.”
Hum…. I guess a bank robbery will now be considered to simply be an ‘unauthorized loan,’ and Underprivileged Enemy Belligerents will be soon be known as ‘Misunderstood Future Friends,’ right?

THERE ARE NOW MORE HUNGARY AMERICAN THAN SMOKERS

Finally Progress
In the twisted world of liberal/progressive/socialist thinking we have achieved a milestone.
THERE ARE NOW MORE HUNGARY AMERICAN THAN SMOKERS.
New report: Smokers down to 42 million Americans.  46.5 million Americans are dependent on Food Pantries.  64 million Americans go to bed hungry each night.  106.6 million Americans are obese.
AS I HAVE ALWAYS SAID “Put Salt*, Pepper and Butter on the obese Americans and turn the hungry Americans loose on them”.  Now with fewer smokers many of the obese will no longer have the Tobacco Aftertaste.

TRUST:
GOVERNMENT/POLITICIANS/ACADEMICS/SCIENTISTS/LIBERALS/PROGRESSIVES/SOCIALIST FOR YOUR FACTS!  DON’T BELIEVE YOU LYING EYES.
*But salt responsibly, according to government guidelines.

brutes in suits

(Don Boudreaux)

“There is nothing at any level that is uplifting or good or noble or praiseworthy about politics.  It’s a nasty, corrupting, soul-destroying business.  Politics is the province, not of civilized men and women but, rather, of brutes in suits.  At best, in this imperfect world of ours, entering politics is excusable only if the genuine goal is to reduce the role of politics as much as possible.  But the great majority of people who enter politics, regardless of what they say (for they are nearly all skilled in the dark arts of deception), do not do so in order to diminish the role of politics but, instead, to extend that role or to change the details of the application of government force (or both).  These are people who arrogantly wish to dominate others, and who are happy to have the lazy assent of the masses who labor under the ages-old superstition that human society must be formed and guided by force wielded by Great Men and Great Women.

We humans are not very far removed genetically from chimps; we are much more like them than it seems to us from our self-aware perch.
Alpha-male (and female) humans who seek and gain positions of political ‘leadership’ in human society are best thought of in the same way as Haidt describes alpha-male chimps.  Without exception, anyone who seeks a position of political  ‘leadership’ does so largely for self-interested reasons.  And with rare exception, those who succeed in gaining such positions – especially positions at the highest (“national”) ranks – are individuals who are especially unscrupulous about imposing their wills on others and are inordinately good at marshaling physical violence, or threats of such, to impose their wills.”

… is from pages 170-171 of Jonathan Haidt’s excellent 2012 book, The Righteous Mind (original emphases; footnote deleted):
Alpha-male chimps are not truly leaders of their groups.  They perform some public services, such as mediating conflicts.  But most of the time, they are better described as bullies who take what they want.

why government employees are more virtuous than average people

why government employees are more virtuous than average people
TRUST GOVERNMENT     HO, HO, HO

“A related form of utopianism consists of suspending general assumptions about human nature when considering agents of the state.  Defenders of government are often keen to point out the harms that might result from the widespread greed and selfishness of mankind in the absence of a government able to restrain our worst excesses.  Yet they seldom pause to consider what might result from the very same greed and selfishness in the presence of government, on the assumption that governments are equally prone to those very failings.  It is not that statists have some account of why government employees are more virtuous than average people.  Nor do they have some plan for making that be the case.  Rather, it seems simply to have never occurred to most statists to apply realistic assumptions about human nature to the government itself.  The state is treated as if it stood above the empirical human world, transcending not only the moral constraints but also the psychological forces that apply to individual human beings.
In short, the typical statist case for government intervention depends upon the occurrence of miracles.  It’s very unscientific and not at all reality-based.  It’s utopian in the worst way.”
