Just to prove, ‘once a Communist, always a Communist ‘ (believer), when the writer Nabokov asked a confirmed Lenin supporter to justify the bestial terror that had been sanctioned by Lenin - the torture-house, the blood-bespattered wall - his friend would murmur something about the “Allied Blockade” and never realized. that idealists like himself would be destroyed by Lenin’s regime as naturally as rabbits are by ferrets and farmers.
Nesbit and his highbrow friends saw in Lenin a kind of sensitive, poetic-minded patron and promoter of the newest trends in advanced art and advanced politics ( which in reality were just meaningless words).
Even after an absence of 17 years, when Nabokov met Nesbit briefly, his friend was shocked at the purges of the heroes of his youth, BUT still did not reconsider the preconceived notions of his youth and still saw Lenin’s short reign in a glamorous light. Wow!
Obama’s supporters should have by now seen through the idealism of ‘hope and change.’
